How do we handle adversity?

How do we handle adversity? What do we do when we step out in faith and crowds begin to throw insults and slander. First off, we know we are never alone; Jesus was well acquainted with the brutality of gossip, accusations, and controversy. Yet, He endured every attack and centered Himself in peace. Recognize that you "must be prepared for the spears and arrows that may be hurled at us once we get into the palace, because those who dare to achieve and step out really annoy those who would rather stay where they are" (Laurie Beth Jones).

Here are some practical tips from the life and ministry of Jesus for when your pursuit of excellence and the Kingdom draw negative attention.

Strengthen your relationship with God. He is your source and your reason for existence; lean on His love and let His words back your every action.

Consider the source and motivation behind accusations. Jesus often "turned their questions back on them" to get to the heart and motive of His enemies.

Jesus did not respond to every insult. Let the Holy Spirit guide your words as well as your silence.

Tell the Truth.

God is your prize, not the approval of man. You stand before an audience of ONE!

This resource is a summary from Laurie Beth Jones' book, "Jesus, Entrepreneur."
