Lesson 2: Influence (John Maxwell Leadership)

The ability to influence others and add value becomes a tremendous asset in our life.

Become Intentional about adding value to people and you will find that it comes back to lift you up. Everyday think and look for ways to add value to people.

Influence is simply the capacity to have an effect on the words, choices, behavior, development, or character of someone else. Position and title have very little to do with influence and leadership.

BENEFITS

  1. You have a chance to make a difference in the world.

  2. You can do more with others than you can ever do alone.

  3. You will feel the joy of helping other people succeed.

Jesus influenced the 12 disciples and in turn changed the world.

NEXT STEPS

Develop the following:

  1. Character: Who you are is extremely important when influencing others, having an attractive character is key.

  2. Relationships: Build and invest in the right kind of relationships.

  3. Knowledge: This will help establish our credibility with others.

  4. Intuition: We must use our intuition to recognize and influence intangibles like energy, morale, timing and momentum.

  5. Experience: This does not guarantee credibility but it encourages people to give you a chance to prove that you are capable.

  6. Track record of success: This helps develop trust and gives the people another reason to trust your decisions.

You get to determine what impact you want to have on the people around you and your community.
